NEW YEAR, Still singing!

Here's everything you need to know about how we will SING INTO SPRING...

At the moment the choir is staying online for sessions, which run on Tuesday & Wednesday mornings (10am) and Saturday afternoons (1pm). There is a possibility of some face-to-face rehearsals, although nothing set in stone due to ever-changing government guidelines because of Covid... These sessions would take place in various locations around Cornwall - so hopefully somewhere to suit everyone. If you are not based in Cornwall then you can still be part of our virtual one.

My main emphasis is on singing to release stress & improve overall well-being, with the feeling of being connected even when not physically in the same room! During the course of the last few months (since 'launching' in September), I have adapted the sessions to get the most out of being on Zoom, aiming for songs that are not too complicated, where people can try out the harmonies if they wish, or just sing the tune - so that things are kept fairly light & relaxed. Although it's obviously not as magical as singing together in person, there are positives - and it's a good opportunity to explore your own voice, without fear of judgement or singing wrong notes (!), as well as getting to know others in a relaxed environment. I do a lot of the arrangements myself and use my own recordings, so that it feels like you are singing along with other people and can experience the harmonies.

Also, I feel it is important to create a space where people can dip in and out as they please - so there is no huge commitment and if you can't join in every week then that's fine!
I ask for a payment of your choice - from just £5 to £45 for the whole term (which will be 11 weeks) - but you can sign up for a free taster session too (scroll down...)

I intend to do new songs each week, most likely looking at a couple of songs with optional harmony & probably consisting of one up-beat & one more reflective (but still feel-good in an emotive sense) - think contemporary as opposed to more traditional choral repertoire.

There is also the opportunity to be involved with a fantastic Virtual Choir Show in February - but no pressure! I also plan to include a couple of more in-depth songs to be found on the members' page, so that if people would like more of a challenge (or just extra singing) then that is available, but not compulsory. Other resources include video tutorials, lyrics and sometimes scores (for those who like to use them).

Each session starts with a general hello & quick catch up, followed by a warm up - starting with connecting with the breath & releasing tension, then a few vocal patterns & warm up song, and then a 'singalong' song with me playing the piano - but at this point everyone has their microphone muted, to avoid the time delay issues! I also end each session with another karaoke type song, with optional kitchen dancing (usually from me anyway!). Please note, I never want anyone to feel silly and really just want everyone to experience the wonderful benefits from singing, and hopefully leave the session on a natural high.
Hope to see you soon! Jo

Due to Covid-19 uncertainties we're still keeping it safe & simple on Zoom for the time being, although hopefully some face-to-face sessions will take place at least once a month. Watch this space...and if you'd like to give it a go then please fill out the free taster session form or send me an email :)

Focus will be on bringing people together each week, with plenty of time to chat (over a cuppa) and 90 minutes of singing.

I've been leading choirs in some form for around 20 years now, and want to create something really special, with a personal and fresh approach. Repertoire will be highly varied, with a mixture of piano accompaniment, backing tracks & a cappella. No auditions & no requirement to read music - plus - your song suggestions are always welcomed.
I love inspiring people to find their voice (& with it the confidence to sing collectively) and experience the positive (& sometimes even life-changing) qualities of being in a choir.
